PPA10: Semi-Homemade Thanks

It's Thursday, and it's time to play Pals Paper Arts Challenge. This week's challenge is creating anything related to gratitude and giving thanks, either a thank you note or thanksgiving card or whatever. It was such an appropriate challenge since I had to send a thank you note to my best friend's mom. She makes these gorgeous jewel encrusted flip flops. I have been dying for a pair in black and what do I get in the mail in a few short weeks. She is one of my many mothers and I just love her to pieces. Of course, making this card for her was a no brainer. I also decided this would be a great opportunity to do the Polka Dot Paradise Color challenge from Embellish Magazine. The colors are Cream, Light Orange, Orange and Burgundy and of course polka dots. So the concept for this card comes from one of my favorite Food Network show, Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee. The premise of the show is using store bought ingredients some premade to make great and tasting meals. I took that to card making, so a "semi-homemade" card is one that uses a purchased/premade card base (I usually get mine on sale) to create a wonderful card. I start with a base and design from there. This strategy is great when you want to make a quick card. Here is what I did:

  • A strip of textured Dusty Durango was adhered on top of Bravo Burgundy that was edged with the scallop edge punch
  • The ribbon which is 1/4' grosgrain in Bravo Burgundy is adhered with sticky stripe. A loop bow accented with pearl from the Pretties kit
  • The sentiment stamped in Bravo Burgundy on Very Vanilla is punched out with the scallop circle and popped with dimensionals on a 1 3/4" circle
  • Three pearls finish off the side
I really do like the end result. The color combo worked well together and it was so easy to have the polka card base already there. Well, now it is your turn to play. No need to use my color scheme, but I am sure there is someone in your life that you want to thank. Now is the time and you get to participate in a great challenge as well.

What I used:
Stamp: Very Versatile (retired) Ink: Bravo Burgundy(105214) Paper: Dusty Durango Textured for In-Color assortment(115314), Bravo Burgundy from Rich Regals assortment(105567), Very Vanilla(101650) Kool Tools: Scallop edge punch (112901), Scallop circle punch (109043) and 1 3/4" circle punch (112004) Fabulous Finishes: 1/4" grosgrain ribbon in Bravo Burgundy(109028), Pearls from Pretties kit (109114)
